A popular hotel that has been operating in the Federated States of Micronesia for four decades has closed.
The Village Hotel based in Pohnpei has closed down after land lease negotiations became too complicated. Owned by an American couple – Bob and Patti Arthur – the hotel was popular with visitors from Europe and America because of its eco-friendly practices.
The owners told Radio New Zealand that the negotiations for the lease started with four landowners to, but ended up with 26 the second time around, a difficult setting that forced the owners to close.
The owners expressed sadness and loss over the closure of the hotel, as it was their ‘labor of love’.
