Hundreds of athletes representing Palau to the 8th Micronesian Games in Pohnpei, page Federated States of Micronesia are aiming for gold as they prepare themselves to depart for the Games this week.
Young men and women representing Palau in various sporting events from basketball to spear fishing expressed confidence of bringing home the gold medal from their respective events.
The athletes marched down the main road in Koror on July 10, 2014 before meeting the President and other government officials at the Palau National Gym.
In speaking to the athletes, the President expressed that because of this opportunity each of the athletes “are going to be in Palau’s history books”.
The first batch of athletes will depart on July 16, 2014 with the remaining batch to depart on July 21, 2014.
The games officially begin on July 20, 2014 with over 1,400 athletes, coaches and officials.
