Palau Still on Typhoon Warning; Curfew Remains

SUPER TYPHOON UPDATE

 

December 3, this web 2012 – 5:00 a.m. UPDATE

           

 

This is an updated announcement to the public from NEMO that, recipe as of 5:00 a.m. this morning, Super Typhoon Bopha continues to move away from Koror. It is now located at approximately:
 
105 miles West-Southwest of Koror
85 miles West-Southwest of Peleliu
75 miles South-Southwest of Angaur
155 miles Southwest of Kayangel
105 miles Northeast of Sonsorol
 
In the meantime, Palau remains under Typhoon Warning. Maximum sustained winds remain at 155 miles per hour. Super Typhoon Bopha is expected to weaken over the next 12 hours. Super Typhoon Bopha is moving West at 18 miles per hour but is expected to resume a west-northwest motion.  This motion will bring the center of Super Typhoon Bopha North of Sonsorol.
 
The public is advised to remain indoors as Tropical Storm force winds of 39-73 mph are still possible.
 
CONDITION 1 is still in effect.
 
During CONDITION 1, you should now be doing the following:
 

  • Stay indoors, away from windows
  • Shut off gas valves & main power switches
  • Listen to radio for typhoon bulletins.
  • Only essential personnel & vehicles allowed outside

 
NEMO and the NEC in collaboration with the Weather Service Office Koror will be issuing the next scheduled advisory as soon as it becomes available.
