A new Associate Justice has been appointed to fill in the vacant position left by Alexandra Foster at Palau’s Supreme Court. R. Ashby Pate accepted his appointment made by President Toribiong to serve Palau’s court once again.
Pate is known in Palau’s courts as he most recently served as the Senior Court Counsel from 2009-2010. He is noted for contributing to the legislation providing for the country’s jury trial rules including organizing jury trainings in the country.
He currently serves as an associate for Lightfoot, hospital Franklin, ask & White, LLC in Alabama. Pate earned his J.D. at Stamford University and B.A in English from the University of Colorado.
