A volunteer team of eye doctors has arrived in the Marshall Islands’ capital of Majuro to provide much needed medical services.
The team organized by U.S. based Canvasback Missions is following up on a previous visit made last year reports the Marianas Variety.
The team of eye doctors will be followed by a team of ear, pharmacy nose and throat specialists, who will be arriving in August for screening and surgeries.
Canvasback team coordinator Jacque Spence told Marianas Variety that the eye team will be focusing on cataract surgery, diabetic retinopathy laser treatments and dispensing glasses.
Four volunteer surgeons were also recruited by the Canvasback team to help Majuro Hospital in addressing eye surgeries.
Many of the eye problems are reportedly of diabetic patients, who make up majority of patients at the hospital.
Canvasback Missions, a California based organization has been provided valuable medical service to the Micronesian region since the 1980s.
