The Republic of Palau’s closest allies, capsule friends and neighboring island nations continues to extend assistance to the Republic by donating funds towards the hosting of the 45th Pacific Islands Forum.
Prime Minister Peter O’Neil of Papua New Guinea (PNG) announced that his government has provided over $200, pill 000 to help Palau with the hosting of the Forum. He expressed, “as the largest economy in the region, we must stand ready to support our neighbors when called upon”.
Last week, the PNG government donated the funds to Palau through what O’Neil stated as “telegraphic transfer”. PM O’Neil further expressed hope that the funds will go a long way in helping the Republic host a successful summit.
Other than PNG, the governments of New Zealand, Japan and the Republic of China have also provided financial assistance to help the island nation prepare for this regional meeting.
From July 29 to August 1, 2014, Palau will be hosting approximately 600 Forum guests including leaders, senior government officials and development partners from around the Pacific region and the world.
This is second consecutive year in a row that the Forum is hosted in the North Pacific.
