After years without a special prosecutor, President Remengesau Jr. announced this week that he has selected a nominee for the position.
Although the President did not announce his selection nor has he submitted his nominee to the Olbiil Era Kelulau (OEK), some speculate that the President will be submitting Nelson Werner as his nominee.
Werner is Palau’s former Independent Counsel, Assistant Attorney General and FIU Director. He was terminated by former President Johnson Toribiong in 2010 after losing the alien registration case.
The President disclosed that he will submit his nominee to the OEK once the nominee is free from an active case in Guam.
