Palau President Proposes ‘No Commercial Fishing Zone’ – VIDEO

By Rolynda Jonathan

The President of the Republic of Palau Tommy E. Remengesau Jr. has announced plans to ban all commercial fishing in Palau’s exclusive economic zone.
During a reception dinner on March 11 welcoming Prince Albert II of Monaco, ampoule President Remengesau said the initiative would not only make Palau a Shark Sanctuary, but would make Palau a Sea Sanctuary.
“Our vision is for an area that is so well protected that Palau becomes the world’s largest marine resource sanctuary,” says Remengesau. “No longer will Palau be merely a Shark Sanctuary, it will be a Sea Sanctuary that protects all marine wildlife within Palau’s EEZ.”
