Marshall Islands-Based Fishing Vessel Found With Shark Fins – VIDEO

By Rolynda Jonathan

A Marshall Islands-based and Federated States of Micronesia-flagged fishing vessel has had its fishing license suspended by the Marshall Islands after shark fins were found on board its vessel.
During a sub-regional maritime surveillance operation, ten bags of shark fins and shark skins were found on board the vessel that fishes locally for the Marshall Islands Fishing Venture.
According to Marine Resource Authority officials, a fine was being negotiated for violating local laws as the rather settles the matter than go to court.
The Marshall Islands is one of a handful of nations that exclusively prohibits shark finning in its water including the possession of shark fins on board fishing vessel no matter the origin.
