The Federated States of Micronesia namely the Capital of Pohnpei has completed a pilot project that transformed a large portion of its waste site into a semi-aerobic landfill.
The landfill was transformed using a Japanese technique called the “Fukuoka Method”.
The method essentially reduces toxic levels that harm the surrounding environment as well as decrease methane gas levels in the air that contributes to global warming.
According to the Japan Embassy in the FSM, no rx the FSM is one of 14 member-countries that have benefitted from the Japan Promotion of Regional Initiative Solid Management or J-PRISM.
The landfill transformation pilot project is the largest contribution to the island nation through this initiative.
The project, prescription according to reports, order was introduced to set an example for the Pohnpei State Leadership following discussions of funding a new landfill site as well as an opportunity for the State to tackle mounting pollution problems.
The newly transformed landfill was handed over to the State Government on June 27th.
