FSM Citizen Pleads Guilty To Vehicular Homicide In Guam

A Federated States of Micronesia citizen connected to a tragic vehicular accident that killed his toddler in 2012 has entered a guilty plea in Guam’s Superior Court.

On February 21, medicine 2014, Marco Nelson entered a guilty plea to vehicular homicide while intoxicated, a first-degree felony charge.
In 2012, Nelson, then 28-years-old, was arrested by Guam police officers in connection to a two-vehicle car accident that killed his four-year old daughter.
Court documents indicate that Nelson showed “lack of concern” for his daughter after the accident.
He reportedly denied driving the vehicle, and failed to inform police officers and medics about his daughter who was in the back seat of the car when he collided with another vehicle.
Nelson entered a plea agreement with the Guam government that dismissed all other charges against him.
He could face five to fifteen years in prison compared to a life sentence after he entered the plea agreement that helped him avoid trial.
Presiding Judge James Canto informed Nelson during his recent court appearance that since he’s a citizen of the FSM there’s a possibility that he will be deported or barred from entering the United States upon his release.
Nelson’s sentencing hearing has been set for early June 2014.
