An overdue boat from the state of Chuuk in the Federated States of Micronesia that was reported missing on March 13, shop 2014 was located off Satawal Island last week.
According to online reports, residents of Satawal spotted the boat drifting about one-mile from shore.
One man was found on board and when residents determined the boat was the reported missing vessel they quickly assisted the lone survivor.
Two fishermen originally set out on the boat for a daylong fishing trip, but when they didn’t return a search was conducted.
The 50-year survivor was reportedly fatigued, but in good health.
The second man reportedly jumped overboard a few days after the boat became adrift. It’s uncertain if he survived the swim.
The overdue boat prompted a one-week search and rescue operation conducted by the Guam Coast Guard, U.S. Navy, the Royal Australian Air Force and the FSS Micronesia.
