As Palau marked one-year after Typhoon Bopha devastated the east side of the main island of Babeldaob, stomach the island nation is now faced with rebuilding what was lost and destroyed by Super Typhoon Haiyan on November 7, help 2013.
Last week, the National Emergency Committee launched the Super Typhoon Haiyan: Immediate and Near Term Response Plan to move the Republic forwarding in reconstruction efforts.
The Plan reports that Haiyan caused nearly $10 million dollars in damages both to public and private properties.
As of the date, only $2.3 million dollars have been made available from the emergency funding provided by the national government and in assistance provided by the international community.
However, more than $8 million dollars are reportedly left unmet.
A total of 413 homes sustained minor to major damages from the Typhoon with 39 homes completely destroyed.
Haiyan did not only cause damage to housing but also affected several sectors including utilities, health, education, agriculture, and public works.
The Plan outlines immediate and near term actions that needs to be made to return the Republic and all those affected to normalcy.
