Governor of Texas, the honorable Rick Perry was bestowed the title of Palau Honorary Consul on April 10, 2014 by the Olbiil Era Kelulau — Palau’s National Congress.
Governor Perry who is making his first visit to the Republic of Palau is assisting the BentProp Project in the search for missing American servicemen who fought in the Battle of Peleliu during the second World War.
In his address to the joint session conducted by the Congress, Governor Perry recognized the special relationship the United States shares with Palau, and pointed out similarities between this small island nation and the great state of Texas.
Governor Perry is accompanied by his wife and daughter as well as U.S. military veterans Romus Valton “R.V.” Burgin and Marcus Luttrell in assisting the BentProp team.
In addition to working with BentProp, Governor Perry’s wife is also scheduled to tour the Belau National Hospital and meet with the Palau Nurses Association.
Governor Perry and his family are scheduled to return back to the U.S. on April 17, 2014.
